American video game aficionados stepped into the Jacob K. Javits Center in Manhattan on September 24 for a three-day competition on the controllers. The more than 150 finalists are competing for a slice of the $100,000 cash and prize suite and one of 20 spots on TEAM USA at the Samsung-sponsored World Cyber Games Grand Finals, taking place this November in Chengdu, China.
Players will battle it out in 10 top video games here in New York for the chance to join more than 700 international players from nearly 70 nations at the Grand Finals. There, the prize package is worth more than $500,000 in cash and prizes and carries with it the title of world's best gamer.
TEAM USA captured top honors at the 2007 Grand Final and placed third overall in 2008.
