Tip 23: Up close and personal
June 1, 2009

Don’t be afraid to get up close and personal with your subject!

Full body shots from head to toe, or those with a lot of unneeded background can often times be boring. Try moving in close to your subject when composing your shot, so that they fill as much of the frame as possible. This is simple and effective way of differentiating your photographs and kicking your creativity up a notch.

Trying to include too much in one photo can actually lessen the photo’s allure and can take the emphasis away from your subject. Try this the next time you take a photograph:
Move in as close as possible to the point that you can still properly focus on your subject and that they fill up as much of the frame as possible. The important thing is to focus on the features you want to accentuate. For example, of you’re taking someone’s portrait, maybe you want to focus just on his or her eyes or their smile. Utilizing your zoom is also an option, and is a good way to practice this composition tip if you’re going for the candid shot.

So, don’t be shy… get up close and personal and capture some truly unique and striking photos! Share some of your results with us here on Facebook!
